A Measure of your Mind

A Measure of your Mind

A Poem by jinjahman
"

Tricks of the mind

"
I poured a measure of your mind
into a glass full of ice and watched
as it made from it sweet wine;
but not for my mind!

I glanced left and right crossing
the bridge to your heart; I was caught
by a briar that spat secateurs at me;
but not for my heart, no!

I shared a dance with you on a roof
made from promises; I fell to the ground
amidst the admirers gathered to see you;
but not to see my mono-dance!

I drew a line and wrote it down and
pinched some salt and licked a wound
and sat up and listened..

It was my mind and heart
both dancing to the sound
of far distant stanzas
aching on a plain empty page.

Very charming write filled with desire. Loved it!

I love so much about your poetry J-man, but this is really a stand-out piece for me, filled with passion and longing, and the wry knowledge that these emotions are the hardest to set down on paper.
