Seven Years of Darkness

Seven Years of Darkness

A Poem by Jim of Earth
"

My attempt of explaining a major transition in my life. The "dark night of the soul" experienced in a 7 year cycle that marked personal growth.

"
I was awakened by a prophecy
runes of silence itching at my brain
I laughed in jest at the sunlight’s touch
and in that very moment... it was gone.

Darkness spread along the asphalt
in a reflective sheen of blackened ice
against a speckled glitter backdrop.
frosted breath rushed to filled my lungs
as I exhaled caution into the winds
on wingless flight as natural as nature’s
fingertips caressing the supernatural

upon myself, the center seemed universal
upon others, motives proved controversial
Hidden in the obsidian sky, was the truth
faith withheld, out of reach and unseen
delaying gratification once owed to me

Wayward son, in absence of benediction
laid waste by thoughtless sins of commission
collateral damage, a feast for crows
the end not found, nor seen, nor heard
except those cackles from wretched birds

As time travelled, it did not equal distance
in the quantum midst of a butterfly effect
there was no solace in questions answered
while reviewing actions in retrospect

Once again, the death of night returned
gradually, dawn spilled out upon my feet
rising quickly to insights my eyes could meet
I begged riddance of looming shadows cast
the seven-year cycle of darkness past

Some lovely poetic description in this piece. Seven years darkness is one helluva long time. It reminded me of my Gran who was very superstitious. Crack a mirror, seven years bad luck. Welcome to WC.
