Moving Day

Moving Day

A Poem by Jim Hahn

Rachel had to move today.

She had a lot of stuff,

And she had no help.

So I asked her if she needed me.

She said, Yes, of course

She could use me.

So she packed her things.

She stuffed a lot of boxes,

And stacked a lot of tubs,

And I moved her today.

I moved her dryer,

And I moved her desk,

And I moved her mattress,

And I moved her mirrors,

And I moved her curtains,

And I moved her clothes.

I trucked a lot of boxes,

And hauled a lot of tubs.

She had a lot of stuff.

Seven hours.

I worked seven hours,

Just for her.

You want to know something?

I've been working for her a long time.

I've been trying to move her for years.

And all those years,

Just for her,

They seem to me like days.

So, seven hours?

Mere minutes.

They seemed to me like minutes.

You want to know something else?

I would move heaven and earth for her.

Just for her.

If she said she needed me.

If she said, Yes, move me, Jake.

If she said, Yes.
