Were we too late?

At that time those words,
those feelings,
they had meaning.
How can something suddenly not have meaning anymore?
Did they only count for that time?
Is that how it is?
Are they just temporary?
When they expire do you have to renew them?
When you're too late, do they just go away?
Is that how it works? 
Because that, somehow, makes more sense.
That's why you stopped loving me right?
You were too late?
You forgot to renew your words?
I wish I had known so I could have reminded you.
Would you have renewed them?
