You Only See

You Only See

A Poem by Matt Hope

You only see the trouble without knowing the struggle,
You only see the ruble,
But you don't see the attack,
You see the scar worn back,
But you don't see the whip crack,
You see the wounds,
But you don't see the blade,
You see the rage,
But you don't see the pain,
You see the hate,
But you don't see the fear,
You see the sin,
But you don't see the prayer,
You see mistakes,
But you don't see lessons learned,
You see the burn,
But you don't see the fire,
You seen the fall,
But you didn't see the stones thrown.
You see the weakness,
But you don't see the load.
You see the wreck,
But you don't see the rugged road,
You only see the canvas,
You don't see the art,
You only see the man,
but you don't see his heart.
