Unbounded

Unbounded

A Poem by Shon Harvis

I did it for a moment

Put my toes into the sand,

even drifted on the water,

out of reach from land,

away from the walls,

so carefully I had made,

never diverted, introverted,

safe if I'd only stayed.

I did it for a moment,

I took a look around,

untying the fears that grasped me,

that for so long have kept me bound.

I did it for a moment,

I stood among the crowd,

laughing and talking,

mingling out loud.

I did it for a moment

though patiently afraid

before finding my way back,

to where I should have stayed
