Late night thoughts

Late night thoughts

A Poem by Shon Harvis

I picked up the phone.

at least a hundred times

to call and say come over,

Baby, give us one more night.

can we forget the question?

The one that made you leave,

can you lie here, inside my arms?

for a moment so I can breathe

I know it is somewhat selfish,

to ask you to come and stay,

when one feels the way, I do,

and the other doesn't feel that way.

So, I'll just sit her quiet

I will not say a word,

I’ll just think about the times we laughed,

Have a drink until it gets blurred.

Then I will ask the question,

that's running through my mind,

Where did I go wrong?

That made her leave us behind

Did I do enough to show her,

Just how it was I feel,

or was I just too blind,

to make her see it's real.

The night is getting longer,

As I lay down in my bed

Your side seems so empty,

Can’t get you out of my head.

I see you are drowning in those thoughts which are pertinent.
