When you were lostA Poem by Jessica GreenUniversity assessed poemAnd then you were gone. Your canary yellow coat invisible in the grey. The park began to stretch out for miles, like a desert of
stone. I began to scream your name until my throat split And no words would come out. Among the swings was a spectrum of latex coats. Small legs ran up slides and across monkey bars, Little voices loud as thunder and Rubber boots paddled in puddles, but none were yours. Seconds became hours, the dome of the sky Turned indigo, turning its back on me. The phone, now exhausted from too many Outward calls to our mother fell asleep
instantly. The world kept growing, I was shrinking to the size of a pin. I wasn’t sure how long I’d been crying Or what to do next. And then somehow you were there, 30 metres away With that same look of unawareness. Bright as a flashlight, A speck of gold on the horizon. © 2013 Jessica Green |
