The Stumble

The Stumble

A Poem by Jason Galliger

Slipping down the tip

The bonds-once tightened-now fray and rip

I tumble down the checkered-spiral

Unto blazing ecstasy

A world of endless possibility

The virgin frontier blushes at my approach

Its protectors gather fearing the encroach

But when that first step is made

The ripples that spread

Move too fast to be contained

Change comes on a southerly wind

What once was empty will now be filled

Dreams and desires fight for control of man’s will

The victor paints the land

While the loser carves beneath

Till both collapse on one another

All that’s left is the ruin of a thought

Now-demeaned
