A Poem by Jason Galliger

Gliding on a cotton ball nimbus

Through paper planes

And origami cranes-

Their wings crinkling the air

Slowly they tatter and wear-

I drift down as they shred

Given pithy life-by-folds, now dead

Down I descend through plaster cloud cut-outs

And onto checkered fabric terraces

Of the “warm thoughts and memories” museum

I flicker between silly scissor-bordered frames

That are shrines to family events and games

I skip past the glitter pile and glue blob exhibit

Into the scotch-taped zebra-folded pop-outs

I smile and think:  precursor to touch screen

Then I trip down PipeCleaner Ave.

To the Scratch n’ Sniff store

To buy the freshest scents to sprinkle on my dinner of leftover algebra scrap paper

Knowing all I’ll get is a mix of pulp and hopeless illusions

Such is my bordered life

Bound forever between the start and the finish

Never glimpsing either

Doomed to lie in Elmer’s embrace

Till my Nimbus and I fray

And we fall from the page

I loved it. There was a lovely collection of images, and skillful use of symbolism. The metaphor and allusions worked well together, and the entire poem has this air of youth to it. Well done.

what a wonderfully refreshing piece of writing...yes Bard has a point, I see it laced with subtle metaphor whether intentional or not, it gives the poem depth, your verse is beautifully descriptive..really impressive piece

I agree completely with Bard Constantine.

Outstanding mix of metaphors in this... makes me think of how our lives are measured in scraps of treasured time and moments, while a great majority becomes just the frayed clippings we throw away. Great writing.

This was incredible. There was so much depth and yet so much simplicity, it was just so beautiful. Pure genious, I really love poems like this.
