SHADES     By: JB Murray © Nov 2009

I’ve seen her there before
And it’s always on days like this
Days where the sun sleeps in
And the rain and clouds
Paint the backdrop in hues of grays

She is always standing in the doorway
A breeze wrinkling the curtains behind her
She is only a portrait on the wall
She is the softest shades and the finest lines
A glimpse of what dreams are like

And she waits for him I know
But he never comes
The ring on her finger a reminder
His scent caught forever in that single rose
The one he gave to her

It’s not longing I feel but sorrow
Another worthless evening’s ponder
She is only a portrait on the wall
She is the softest shades and the finest lines
A glimpse of what dreams are like…
