"I know perfectly well my own Egotism"

"I know perfectly well my own Egotism"

A Poem by J.F.Davids
"

forever questioning

"

If the King had met the President in Eden,

Would we still be

speaking in absolutes?

If Humility met our ego in the barren desert years ago,

Who do you think that we'd be praying to?

If Equality had met Liberty in secret:

A clandestine

reunion in the stars;

Do you think the two could coexist,

Alone in the celestial bliss

And lovingly accept each other's flaws?

If the Dove had met the Raven on the wet, black boughs

Would the typewriter long

still for the soul?

If Good and Evil agreed that there's a middle ground,

Would we then grow up instead of just growing old?

I will reflect on my intentions.
