Chessboard for a Flag

Chessboard for a Flag

A Poem by Jay M. Jones

Flag For a Chessboard

They scream, unheard like a silent wind

and in the belly of the copper b***h the people dwell within

voices of the starving all lying in wait

LIke symbols of hope waiting at the pearly gates.

Forever shedding tears for the chosen ones

the have nots, the haves, the priests and the nuns

Waiting for a sign that it's safe to come out,

and free the minds of the captive, in unison they shout.

Fixtures of hate lay strewn in the road.

They carry the cross, but wish to lighten their load.

When smoke is finally sensed and its way too late...

theres that flag in the distance....

checkmate...

I got two different perspectives from reading this and I liked that. It was winding in thought and I loved the ending line, checkmate worked perfectly. The images are eerie and desolate but at the same time they cry out to be heard. A smoke and mirrors kind of poem.
