SoldierA Poem by jexYou and me are not supposed to be, Dancing in this game of mirrors and schemes, Presenting our true colors, We feed on others indifference Shadows spread themselves over our souls, As we all force our influence onto others, Brothers and fathers and mothers and sisters, All feel the knives in their back As this fading world glistens in the distance, A lone fuse begins to spark, This tiny spark of hope is the one we hastily stamp out, Ensuring our cold grip on earth Do you lie awake when you feel our presence? Do you hide and pretend you're not there, When we gradually appear in the distance Or do you fight back, Only to be killed, And disposed of like a useless penny In the end all you see, Is us when we laugh and jeer at you, Don't take it personally when we do this, It's not out of fear or hate, Our reasoning is the same as yours, Everyone loves a paycheque. © 2011 jex |
