Retelling (part 5 of Reverb and Episode 2 of Fade)

Retelling (part 5 of Reverb and Episode 2 of Fade)

A Poem by jex

To tell the story would leave everything out,
To tell the truth would leave you confused,
But here it goes

The sun painted the valley that night,
Lit up the emerald green grass,
Sent out the azure blue sky,
But didn’t light the house

The night Delia disappeared,
Everyone waited,
Everyone knew this was the last day of our lives

Our cursed lives would come to an end

We waited,
Seconds,
Minutes,
Hours

No one moving,
No one uttering a word

The daylight slowly drained out,
The sun was forced out,
By endless black consumed all,
Consumed everything,
Consumed our souls

At midnight they came,
From the attic,
The basement,
The forest

All the spirits came,
Drained of life,
Refilled by hate

A cycle of life and death,
Defined by a family’s actions

When they asked me,
Whether I chose Delia’s life or her death,
I chose her death

If she lived,
She would’ve eventually been dragged down with us,
Into the fire

Her life began here,
And ended in a dark hole

In the end her spirit had peace,
Flying out to the greater reaches above

Into a realm without hate,
Fear,
Curses,
Death
