Love You To Death

an abusive relationship is not pretty

She sits there alone

Crying in her room

Thinking of what he said

 

“You’re nothing without me”

“No one cares when you bleed”

“There are no others”

“Only you and me”

“I love you to death baby”

 

She’s so scared

She can barely breathe

When he gets angry

He strikes her across her face

“Listen to me!” he screams

There is only one choice it seems

 

Everyday she stares in the mirror

All she hears is him

“You’re not that pretty”

“No one else would want you”

“Don’t you think about leaving me”

“Because I love you to death baby”

 

So now she’s in the bathroom

Covering up the bruises

She doesn’t know why he does this

Only that he won’t let her go

There is no escape

 

One night is all it takes

One step too far

She’s bleeding on the ground

No longer making any sound

She’s not crying

She’s not pleading

He can’t hear her heart beating

“What have I done?”

He asks himself

He realizes then

He had always been blessed

But he’ll never get the chance

So he whispers to her

“I loved you to death baby”

“And I'm sorry”

So true about abusive relationships not being pretty and your story poem vividly explores some of the abuses and subsequent consequences to both the victim and the perpetrator, if the abuse is allowed to carry on....I have never understood the concept of staying with an abusive partner, I have been lucky....misplaced love has something to do with it and self hatred for both parties, fear, frustration and of course anger badly directed, all play a part....Good poem, hopefully if the public get to read it, someone will take heed and save themselves a lot of pain, one way or another. Abusive relationships arent worth it. I was in one and it hurts bad. Im lucky that it didnt get that far. Love will never replace the abusiveness in a relationship. right now I am scared to be in a relationship even though I am because Im sacred I will be hit and given bruises again.

Very amazing work! I cant believe she still was going out with that a-hole. The things he said to her were hateful; and the way he acted towards her was monsterous. Like an animal. Now he lost an angel, a beautiful angel. This was extremely emotional, and very beautifully written. I felt it so much. Wonderful write!

So sad though. Being a guy, I know I'd never abuse my girlfriend or any other girl. That's just stupid. If you want her love, earn it, don't force it from her.
