That No Lights-No Nuthin Month

we ain’t have lights that month

nor gas

nor phone

and we ain’t have s**t to eat that month

no nuthin at all

 

we went to school

just to cool off

           get clean

           fill our rumbling bellies with the free lunch

 

at night

we slept with burning candles nearby

dreaming they’d fall over

and end us all

finally
