REINED IN

REINED IN

A Poem by jesthepoet
"

Inspired by a writing workshop assignment, which was simply to write anything inspired by the words "reined in".

"

Gripping tightly

Internal tempests brew

Plummeting fast

Adrenaline  pumping

Self-Helpless

All plans forgotten

In the surplus

Of rampant emotion

Clamping down

Planting yourself

Firmly in denial

Unwilling, unable

To respond

To the subconscious

Slap of logic

Mentally mapping

your escape route

Plotting your reaction

Suppressing your desire

Beneath a tissue-thin

surface

You slip

Into past patterns

Unplug the flashing neon

Warning sign

Propel yourself forward

And wait

       To Snap!

At first I imagined a storm wrecking a ship of some sort while a person is trying vainly to hold it from destruction, sort of like symbolism for emotions I suppose. I like the way you wrote this. Powerful piece. It made me wonder... or rather... makes me wonder what imagery you wanted to present with this.
