Uncanny Love

Uncanny Love

A Poem by Jessica Wood
"

Abuse from father to daughter

"

Uncanny Love

There was a tension not known by friends

Unfamiliar to pets

But welcomed by father and daughter.

The consistent fear of doing something wrong

His husky voice screaming those unkind words

Making her wish she had a different life

This pain is known all too well

To the one who suffers

The ones who abuse

It’s a blanket of comfort for the one doing the damage

Something they have known

But living in fear isn’t how you should blossom.

She may be a child

And he may be a dad

But loving is something that should never be forgotten.

Her biggest fear shouldn’t be coming home

His greatest pleasure shouldn’t be watching her cry

But they both know that they love each other

Because the bond between a father and daughter is forever.
