Life and Death

Life and Death

A Poem by Jessica Wood
"

My views on a few things

"

Death.

A word feared by some

and yearned by others.

But what really happens in this event called “death”

does one just wake up into a new day?

or are they stuck forever seeing the familiar of their eyelids

my death may be in a flowery meadow

while his may be in a devastating car crash.

maybe it’s that one disease that finally wins the fight

or its just one wrong move of your hand.

we can’t tell when it is our time to meet death

but everyone one of us will.

it is an inevitable part of life

foreseen by none.

Life.

A simple four letter word that means so much

To live or to die many ask,

While they ponder it goes unnoticed

That every breath in between is life.

It is a strange place this life

You get handed things you don’t know what to do with

And your beloved things get torn from your grasp.

Then it leaves you wondering.

What did I do wrong?

In reality you didn’t do anything wrong

It was an event to make you grow

One that made you open your eyes to broader horizons

Something that made you cherish,

made you grateful,

for life.

While reading this, a poem I wrote a time ago called "Sands" came to mind. The contrast highlighted in this poem between death and life yet how it is in many ways similar is so true that most people can't even see it.
This was very well written and a very good ready. One of my new favorite poems
