It Was all a Trick of the Light

It Was all a Trick of the Light

A Poem by Jessica

It was all a trick of the light,
American exceptalism running extreme,
It was all a trick of the light,
Sun soaked land of my dreams,
You're the land they all dream to be,
Through honey soaked streets you are free,
But it was all a trick of the light you see,
Marketers run mad with glee,
Perhaps we were never really free.

Well, Jessica,
I'll have to wholeheartedly agree.
Anytime a kid lacking talent, the way Justin Bieber did, can be turned into an upstart musical billionaire, speaks tomes to the power suggestive advertising wields over the susceptible American public.
And, that's but one of literally tens of thousands of examples.
In every home, on every street, the pie-in-the-sky fallacy is promoted, luring even the unsuspecting wary from all corners of the globe to the land of the free.

Way to spiel it, Sylvia … powerful stuff, indeed! It's sooo refreshing to see you're not just another pretty face with a fancy pen.

I needed that honest shot in the arm to keep me awake and thinkin'.
Thanks, Lady-Poet! ⁓ Richard : )
