We all gathered in the parlor while James walked toward the door. I peeked outside and say a white 57’ Chevy with new rims. Fancy. I used my high senses at listen in to James conversation.

 

“Hello my name is Emily.”  I decided I would walk into the other room with James. Once I entered I had a sensation that felt like I should run out of the room. Her beauty was astonishing. She had long hair the color of the ocean. And her eyes were fiery red.

 

“Well Emily I’m James and this is my fiancé Maredith.” He offered her his hand. She took it and then released it quickly.

 

“I know who you are and I have come here to help you.” Her words were filled with no feeling but I felt she did care.

 

“Well we can use all the help but may I ask how can you help? You are a mere demon.” James’ words made Emily laugh.

 

“Silly vampire I’m no mere demon, I’m the Queen of the Harpies.” She held up her hand and presented a clawed hand. I moved close to James.

 

“What is a Harpy?” I whispered to James.

 

“Later,” he whispered “Well are you here to offer the help of the entire Harpies Clan?” He took a step forward.

 

“Yes I am. Two days ago a woman came to me and asked on bent knees for my help to banish an evil so great.” From behind her through the open door four more beautiful women holding giant swords. “I decided this woman should be questioned longer but after I pronounced this she fled. Then I sent one of my lovely girls to verify your wickedness.” She motioned for one girl to step forward.

 

“Is this the woman you sent?” I asked without thinking.

 

“Yes she is. Her name is May-Lynn and she is my fiercest warrior.” She looked to May-Lynn and May-Lynn bowed.

 

“I believe that we need all the help we can get but we wouldn’t have room for your entire clan.” James moved toward the other room motioning for them to follow. As you can see we have many over a dozen guests with us already.”

 

“There is no need for my entire clan to stay in the house. I can have my workers dig accommodation for the clan under the structure of the house with your permission. I would be the only one in the house.” She smiled and showed fangs.

 

“Well of course you may stay in the room above Maredith’s and mine. My brother Patrick will show you.” He gave Patrick the keys to the mini bar. Edith-Lynn came over and pulled on my pant leg.

 

“Mommy that lady is scary looking.” Her face was pale and she looked like she might cry.

 

“Oh baby she is here to help you. How is she scary, I think she is pretty.” She looked up at James then to me.

 

“I looked in her mind and she had wings and scary claws.” She kept looking back at the wall that Emily had disappeared behind. I had no answers for her. My eyes drifted up to James. His face showed no worries only laughter.

 

“James honey could we go and talk in our room?” I said as I handed Edith-Lynn to Anna and walked toward the stairs. He came up behind me and grabbed my hand. We walked silently until we reached to threshold of the bedroom. James opened the door and led me to the bed.

 

“So explain to me who and what Emily is?” I said as I sat down.

 

“Well to start Emily is a Harpy Queen. She is one of the most powerful demons in the underworld and has the most demons in her clan.” He let out a big sigh

 

“She was once in love with a witch, but one night found him in bed with a human who he was going to leave her for and was furious. She killed the human, the witch cursed her and all her followers with the horrible look of crows.” He walked over to the book case against the far wall and pulled out a small, leather bound book.

 

“Well how can I not see her wings?” I asked as he sat back down.

 

“She has acquired the power to hide her wings from most people. Everyone that is except for the pure hearted.” He began to flip through the book until he stopped on a page that had a horrible creature on it. “This is her true from, only her followers and her past lovers can see her like this. They have a connection so deep she cannot hide it from them.” This creature had long black wings over twice the size if the body. It had the face of a beautiful woman with long black hair. Her hands were distorted to look like clawed feet. Her smile was huge with frightening red tinted teeth. At her feel were kneeling woman with small wings and similar features.

 

“James how could a beautiful woman look so evil. Why did you let her stay here in our home? What if she hurt Edith-Lynn? What if one of her followers tries to hurt one of the others we have here?” He grabbed my hand and ran the other one through my hair.

 

“Calm down, Love. She will not hurt anyone, neither will her followers. They have been at peace with everyone for centuries and only help the good.” He laid his hands over mine. “Anyways I would never let anyone hurt you.”

 

“I love you James.” I said as I embraced him.

 

“I love you too Maredith.” He whispered in my ear. A few moments later we heard a tap on the door.

 

“Come in.” We both said.

 

“Maredith, Aphrodite just put Edith-Lynn to bed for you.” Kay said then closed the door.

 

“What would we do without all this help?” James asked as he got dress for bed. I couldn’t help but stare at his skin. It was so pale but it was beautiful.

But that ringing is driving me crazy. I turn around and dig my phone out of the nightstand.

 

“Hello?” My voice was so tired sounding and I had no clue who it was. No Caller-ID means I’m in the dark.

 

“Maredith is that you?”

 

“Elise what is wrong?” Her voice was distressed.

 

“Today has to be the worst day of my life. I don’t know what to do.” She started to talk faster.

 

“Elise, honey, what happened?” I asked as fast as I could.

 

“I will tell you in about five seconds I am in the drive-way.” She cut the line before I could say anything more. James had sat and listened to the whole conversation

 

“What is wrong, love?” James asked as he walked over to the door. He barely had time to open the door before Elise fazed through the door. She had that power since we were kids.

 

“Maredith I just don’t know what to do!” She came in and sat next to me. Her hair was in a bun on top of her head and her dress was covered in mud.

 

“Elise what happened to you?” That set her off. She went into full on speed. The same Elise I love.

 

“It started today at school. Agitha showed up during an assembly for the Solider,” the Solider is a secret club that only lets in magical creatures and magical teachers. “And then started to say stuff that didn’t make sense. The teachers started to grab her and she lashed out.” She paused then broke out in tears.

 

“Oh honey, calm down.”  I pulled her into my lap

 

“Mare, she killed three of the teachers!” I gasped without knowing it. James had rushed over to my side and was helping me cradle Elise.

 

“James will you go get Anna, Quickly.” James jumped up and moved in a blur to the door.

 

“Elise you have to talk to me, was that all that happened?” I grabbed her face with my forefinger and my thumb.

 

“No, I went home afterwards and my sister was crying in the yard. I told her to get in the car. I rushed in and found my parents dead in the Fourier.” Anna entered the room and Elise somewhat calmed down but the pain in her eyes was bright. She still didn’t stop crying “All over the floor were papers. I looked through them and they were adoption papers for me! I didn’t know what to do so I just left.”

 

“Oh my gosh.” The only words that left my mouth.

 

“Maredith I found this little one downstairs.” Aphrodite walked Elise’s little sister Vegas in.

 

“Thank you Aphrodite, will you go make some soup?” She nodded and took Vegas with her.

 

“Now Elise, Vegas and you can stay here as long as you want.” For the rest of the night she just sat and cried in my arms

The next morning we figured out we had no food left in the house. And we had a lot of mouths to feed, including grieving girls. Two words, ice cream.

 

“Elise, Anna, Edith-Lynn, Vegas, and anyone else who want to come to the store get your butts down here.” I yelled from the bottom of the stairs. I walked to the kitchen and scanned to see what I had to work with. Three fridges, a long table, and walk-in pantry where someone could live in. We need food and blood.

 

“Mommy I’m hungry.” Her cute little voice in the back of my mind makes me turn. She had an empty bottle in her hand. She started to shake the bottle back and forth.

 

“Oh baby, were going to get food right now.” All of a sudden the bottle filled up with blood. Edith-Lynn had a way of making things appear. She guzzled down the bottle and handed it to me.

After everyone came downstairs I did a head count. Aphrodite, Anna, Edith-Lynn, Vegas, Elise, Emily (plus two guards), Mary, Ben, and me made twelve. How am I going to get everyone there?

 

“James, Honey will you come down here?” I yelled from the stairs. In moments James was by my side. He pulled me into his arms and kissed me.

 

“Yes Love?” He still held me in his arms. His touch was so soft and loving it made me think what I would do without him.

 

I have to stop thinking like that. “Oh well you wouldn’t happen to have a 12 seat car with a big trunk would you?” He has everything else in the world why not a giant truck.

“Well I don’t own a truck but I do have a renovated bus with room for twenty people and food. It is out in the garage.” He handed me the keys then grabbed my hand. As we all walked out to the car I began to think about how much food we need.

 

“Maredith, can I talk to you?” Anna can up behind James and me. I looked at James then to Anna. “It’s okay if he is here.” She said in a small voice. Anna was a very small blond. She had blue eyes and always wore black.

 

“Okay what do you need?” I asked walking over to the side of the huge garage. James wrapped his arms around my waist. He made me feel so short. I was only five four compared to his six feet.

 

“Well I sort of want to know why everyone is going to the store just to get food.” She gave me a half smile like she thought I was thinking she was stupid.

 

“Oh that’s because I have a list four pages long and I thought everyone would want to get out. But if you don’t want to come honey you can stay.” I smiled back at her.

 

“No I would love to come. Do you want me to split the list into groups so we all can get stuff equality?” this time her voice wasn’t afraid like she had just opened a door.

 

“Yes I would love if you did that, thank you.” I handed her the list. She skipped away like a little girl who had just got a piece of candy.

 

“Well, My Love, I do believe it is time for you to depart. Is there anything else you need before you leave?” He spun me around to face him and slid his hands around mine.

 

“Well I think I need two things.” I put his hands on my lower back and pulled him toward me. His hands slid down into my pockets.

 

“Really what is that?” He asked as he pulled me closer.

 

“Well for one I need money for food. But the next one is a little harder.” I slung my arms up over his shoulders.

 

“Well I think I know what you need.” He pulled me up as I wrapped my legs around his waist. James wrapped his arms around my back and kissed me. I kissed him back and I ran my fingers though his hair. James was still holding and kissing me when we heard someone clear their throat.

 

“I don’t want to break up the make out session but we sort of need to leave before the store closes.” Mary was standing about five feet away tapping her coach boots. Her red hair was in an up-do with flowers surrounding it and her burned-red eyes were lined in black. “Hey if you all want to grope each other it all good with me but you don’t have to be embarrassed.” We both still hadn’t said anything

 

“I’m sorry Mary. I didn’t think anyone was watching.” James said in a polite voice.

 

“Hey don’t bother me. I just didn’t want the little girls watchin’.” She laughed then walked over to us. “Mar I have been around and your boy is good.” She whispered in my ear. I think I turned five shades red.

 

“Well I guess that’s good.” I said as I turned even brighter. She winked at me and swung her hips back in forth as she walked toward the bus.

 

“Where was she from again?” I asked James.

 

“She was from the South Bronx. She was a prostitute until she met John. I have known her since the day she was bit. She was bit by my father.” He sounded strained. James mother, a human, was killed by his father during James birth. James won’t tell me anything more other than it was an accident and he hasn’t talked to anyone in his family but his brother and cousin Tina.

 

“Oh I didn’t know. So that’s why she and John came?”  He wrapped his arms around me and we started to walk over to the bus.

 

“Yes and because she is sort of my sister.” James laughed as he opened the bus door for me.

 

“Ah I see. Well we will be back later. I love you.” James leaned in and kissed me.

 

“I love you too. Here is my credit card, spend as much as you want Love.” He winked and blurred back inside.

 

“Are we going or are you and McVampie going to swap spit again?” Mary’s voice rang from the back seats. Everyone looked bored. Anna and Ben were in the first seat together talking quietly. They have “something” going on. Edith-Lynn and Vegas were in the seat across from them and Elise was behind the girls telling them to quit fiddling with their belts. And Emily and Aphrodite were together behind Anna and Ben with the guard behind them.

 

“Yes were leaving now. Anna did you finish the lists?” I sat at the wheel and started the bus as I opened the garage door with the remote on the overhead controls.

 

“Affirmative boss and I passed everyone their assignments.” She said in an excited voice. She was probably feeling someone else’s feelings. “Maredith will you keep your feeling to yourself please?” Anna’s small voice was back. It was my feelings.

 

“Oh sorry.” I mumbled as I started to drive down the long driveway. Everyone was talking and laughing when it hit me. How was I going to get blood for over half of the house?

 

“Uh does anyone know where we can get blood without harming anyone?” I asked as I turned into the Wonder World grocery store       

“Well I could go to the blood bank on fifteenth and main and ask for some.” A deep man’s voice came from behind me. It was Ben. He had a gift of making people forget what they have done.

 

“Well I guess we need it so you can take the bus with you and get back as soon as you can. Kay?” I asked as I handed him the keys and everyone filed out.

 

“Okay officer I will. Ha. Be back quicker if I had your lovers Jag.” Yes James owned ever expensive, fast car in the world be he never drove them.

 

“Ha. Okay well you can tell him that later. Now go so you can get back.” We walked out of the bus and everyone had gotten a cart and was waiting by the entrance. “I’m coming girls!” I yelled as I rushed across the parking lot. I came up as Emily finished saying something to one of her guards.

 

“Oh Maredith will you come here.” She said as I approached the group. I walked up and she motioned for the guard to move. To my side. “I am giving you my second guard because you have an powerful evil after you.” She said then turned to the store entrance so I couldn’t fight back.

 

“Okay well everyone I’ll go in and get some money from the atm then everyone will do what they are suppose to do.” I spoke loudly so everyone heard. “Vegas and Edith-Lynn where are you going?”

 

“Elise is talking me with her and Edith-Lynn is supposed to go with you.” Vegas stepped out of the crowd.

 

“Mommy, can we get some crackers?” Edith-Lynn tugged on my pant leg. I said sure and she got into the cart I was pushing.

 

We split into four groups. Aphrodite and Anna were getting meats and veggies. Emily and her guard (whose name is Anglia) were getting boxed foods. Mary, Elise, and Vegas were getting fruit, breakfast foods, and utensils. Lastly Edith-Lynn, Emily’s guard for me (Winter), and I, had to get drinks for everyone, clothes for Edith-Lynn, and cooking stuff.

We walked into the store at once then slip into groups. I had gone to the ATM to get cash for everyone. After that, as I turned to go down the clothing isle I ran smack into the Furies, Deino, Enyo, Pemphredo. Yes the ones from Greek Mythology Class except they are the most beautiful girls you will ever meet.

 

“Sister, look! It’s that girl from school. Oh what is her name?” Pemphredo spoke first. She was the “alarm” but not very smart.

 

“My name is Maredith.” I said coldly, only trying to find a way around the mass of evil in front of me.

 

“No I don’t remember a Maredith in our school.” A small, angry voice. Enyo was small but she was Horror and remembered everything.

 

“Well I guess that sucks. Now if you excuse me I need to shop.” I said flatly but they didn’t move.

 

“Wait before you leave who is that beautiful child?” said Deino the Dread with a smile. She could detect feelings from the slightest facial movement and she knew she hit a cord. But I sent a big smile right back.

 

“This is my daughter Edith-Lynn.” I said, smiled, then turned one my heels and walked the other way before she could say anything more.

 

I heard them say something then start texting. Great. I hope the whole school knows Samantha is not in school because she got knocked up by James. Not five seconds later my phone rings. Five times.

Elise: Where Are You.?

Lana: Dude call me NOW!

James: My fone is going off every five minutes Love, the whole school knows.

 

 “Mommy those ladies were scary looking.” Edith-Lynn was in the carts baby seat.

 

“Well I guess we see different things baby.” I said as I looked up the next isle to keep from walking into anymore classmates. “There isn’t anyone down there mommy.” Edith-Lynn spoke in a happy voice.

After we all got our food we met at the front to check out. When we got out we found Ben just driving up from the blood bank. We all packed up out food and barely had room for all of us to sit.

 

“Well Ben, how did it go?” I asked from the drivers seat.

 

“I think it went well, I got enough blood to infuse 170 people. Ha.” He said from behind me.

 

“Well that’s good.” I said as I pulled out of the parking lot of the store. Just as I rounded the turn to the back-road home, three figures stepped out into the road. I hit the brakes as fast as I could.

 

There in the middle of the road were the three evil Gray sisters I encountered in the store. They were all dressed differently than they were a hour ago. Black dresses, no shoes, and all three had their hair up in buns.

 

“Halt, Evilness.” Came from Deino. She stepped toward the car and the other two flanked her. I felt Emily’s guards move to the front of the bus and begin to walk toward the door.

 

“Stop, let me handle this.” I said as I stood and exited the bus pushing the door closed behind me with my mind. “What is the matter with you idiots, I could have hit you.”

 

“Your Evilness will not be tolerated, and you must be destroyed.” Enyo spoke this time.

 

“Really, my Evilness? Well what are you going to do about that?” I asked as I cleared my head and got ready to fight.

 

“We shall eliminate the source of the evil and you will return with us.” Pemphredo said, then it hit me. They were after Edith-Lynn.

 

They took another step forward. I was filled with so much anger I raised my hand and aimed for the leader. Deino. The heat erupted first then the fire followed. It spread into a huge orb then lunged for Deino. She burst into flames and screams at once. The other two sisters could feel her pain and fell to the ground with her. I raised my other hand and the cold sensation of water came then poured over Deino. She will be forever scarred.

 

 “Now return to your leader and tell her she will never, I repeat never, get my child. And that I will never be her child. Now go and do not return because I have spared you life.” I spoke in a demanding voice I have never spoke in before. They were gone as soon as I stopped speaking.

 

I walked on to the bus and everyone was crowded in the front to see what I had done. Well everyone except the girls and Elise.

 

“Oh my god, girl you got some serious power.” Mary`s beautiful voice rang out.

 

“Yes, it does. Young one I don’t think even my greatest guard can compete with that.” Emily said after she returned to her seat.

 

“Thank you everyone, but let’s get home before anything else happens.” I said as I sat down behind the wheel and started the bus. It was almost dusk and James was probably worried.
