The Blue Moon

The Blue Moon

A Chapter by J Maredith

That necklace, I have seen it before but where? It is in my mind I just can’t find it. Wait my vision, I had it before my mom disappeared but did I have it after SHE took me. God, she must have taken it off me after she took me from my mother. I have to find it and soon.

We had to start on my training as soon as possible. The Blue Moon was approaching fast. Everyone worked on trying to train me as fast as possible. I had different things on my mind while Kegan showed me how to control my levitation.

“Maredith my dear will you please pay attention.” She snapped her fingers in my face.

“What? Oh yeah I’m watching but I’ll be right back.” I started to walk up the stairs to go get Edith-Lynn. As I reached her room the phone rang.

“Hello?” No one ever called our house.

“Hello, this is Jane Wright calling from Salem High. Oh great they want be back in school.

“Hello can I ask why you are calling?” I heard the secretary take a deep breath.

“Yes we were informed that Samantha Himes will not be returning to school because she has given birth.” Wow I wonder who told them. And why are they calling James house?

“Well yes I will not be returning to school. May I ask who has informed you about this and why you are calling me at this address?”

“Oh uh yes well Miss Elise has told us we could find you here and your mother called and told us. But we called you here because your mother told us you were no longer living with her.” She let out a big breath. Well Agitha is still playing mommy dearest.

“Okay thank you. Oh also could you send my school transcripts to James Locks home please?”

“Uh yes we just need a signature saying you retrieved them.” Wow I really wanted to hang up.

“Sure I’ll come in the day after I receive them. Thank you.” The phone clicked in my ear. What a nice lady.

As I walked outside I heard laughter coming from backyard. When I emerged from the house I saw James and Edith-Lynn playing near the woods.

“James don’t let her wander off.” I yelled as I walked over to Kegan when I realized that Edith-Lynn was upstairs not two minutes ago. James started to walk over with Edith-Lynn as I realized this.

“James were you just upstairs?” He looked at me funny at first then grinned.

“Yes dear and yes I did hear you on the phone.” I love yet hate that way he can be there and I would never know.

“Oh well then I guess I don’t have to tell you.” I said as I took Edith-Lynn from James.

James and I stood for a moment just staring at each other until Kegan came over.

“Maredith will you please come and train?” She gestured to a large archery range across the yard.

“Uh what are we going to do?” I raised my eye brows at her.

“Well were going to practice hitting targets. I think you have the potential to learn how to control the elements. Your mother could do small portions like hold fire and make it sprinkle but nothing big.”  She looked at James and I think they transferred thoughts.

“I don’t think I can do this. I have just began training and I don’t want to hurt anyone.” Kegan looked at me and began to laugh.

“Oh child, you won’t hurt anyone because I trust you.” She started to walk toward the range. “Come child we have little time.” She walked over and picked up a candle that was colored red.

“What are the colored candles are for?” I asked as I examined the five colored candles.

She leans over and points to the blue one. “This one is to help you call water,” she points to the red one, “This one is for fire.” Then to the green one. “This is for earth.” As she reached for the white one I said,

“Let me guess that is for wind?” Kegan smiled and nodded. “Well what is the orange purple swirled one for?”

“Well my dear this is one that we will work on later but I thought I would tell you about it. The candle is supposed to help you connect with a certain element it is blessed with. Now this is one of the rarest candles in the whole world.” She smiled because she was probably one of a very few who owned one. “This candle will help you connect with the spirits of every-or anything live or dead thing you want.” She handed me the red candle.

All of a sudden I felt warmth and smelled the scent of burning hickory. Kegan looked at me and then smiled.

“Child do you feel the warmth?” I nodded and she moved closer the grinned even bigger. “Now focus and push the fire outward toward the target. Imagine it going up in flames.” I turned and focused on the target.

Suddenly the target turned brown and burst in to a roaring fire. “Oh my goodness I did it!” I yelled as I turned and hugged Kegan. Edith-Lynn walked over and grabbed the blue candle. With a flick of her wrist she has thrown a puddle of water on the target.

“Mommy did I do good?” She handed Kegan the candle.

“Wow baby yes you did. How did you know to do that?” She looked at Kegan then to me then motioned for me to bind down. “I read Keke’s mind and I did what you did.”

“Well it looks like you learn as fast as your mother does.” James said from behind me.

“Well when did you get there?” I asked as he put his hands around my waist. Edith-Lynn grabbed my hand and I picked her up.

“I have been behind you the whole time love.” He let go as Anna ran outside.

“Someone is at the door. They are not human!” She had spoken fast and quick. As soon as she spoke the last words we all rushed in.
