The Nature of Death

The Nature of Death

A Poem by Jessica Jean

So snow falls down from the heavens

And softly covers my window

I do not notice it

But when I wake

I see its face below

So too does death skulk and sneak

And sits itself beside

The bodies of every single man

Whose dreams

He cannot decide

Snow is a white crystal color

Death is also white

Footprints that are in the snow

Are effaced

By death at night

And when you have a trust in nature

And all that is and be

The forces that barter life

And death

Will lay you peacefully

Author's Note

Jessica Jean
Inspired by William Cullen Bryant's "Thanatopsis." It's really about how dying is a part of life that nature controls and accepts, whether there is a god or not, you can find solace in the fact that you become one with the whole world when you die, and that should be comfort enough if there is no heaven.

Me too thanks!!
Interesting how you compared death and snow, this was a very peaceful poem (or so that's what I felt)...usually this kind of poems are "dark and rainy", but I like how you tried something else...great job
