A Chip Off the Old Block

A Chip Off the Old Block

A Poem by JessicaPaigeB
"

I have been so happy for so long, but tonight my mask is off.

"

This work just like a painting

just a picture to some

much more to the beholder.

viewers assume the painting is medicine;

each stroke of the brush

a releasing of pain.

such great effort

and it all pays off.

a beautiful display of our hard work,

but what has it gotten us?

all we have earned is a mask.

we have even convinced ourselves

at least for a little while.

soon we are consumed by this disguise

it is all we know

all we want to be.

but every so often

a little piece of that medicine chips off..

43 views and not one reveiw WHAT?. Anyways! I just want to say this is PROFOUND. I read a couple times and I'm still scratching my head thinking, "Wow, so great too great." I understand a bit though. It's like, we write things to release stress/pain/sadness, etc. But in that process we deceive ourselves into thinking, "Yeah, that's over, I'm happy." But we aren't. Not truly. We just bury it under pretty words and rhyme schemes. But, who knows. I could be completely off. Thank for this, it was eye opening(:
