Skeleton StrideA Poem by JessicaSumnerCreepy dude walks hunched and freaks people out.
He could stand erect
The bones were too mishappen They were sadly worn from neglect Like his lips that were frozen while gaping. His stringy hair fell in his face Which possible had sockets for sight But no one shooed him from the place For to approach him was a deadly fright. He roamed the countryside from hunger And found small animals in the trees This children were less scared the younger And this put the villagers greatly at unease The days passed into years and nothing changed on him, not a toenail Until Mayor Kurt took matters into his own hands and decided the hunchback was to be impaled. The creature, aware of change, took running deep into the forest And the men over aged 18 too up chase His sweat began to clog and his skin was gray and pourous And for the first time he felt disgraced. The menfolk shouted and cursed at the monstrous looking man Not a threat was he, nor a bother, only one of God's abominations So into the forest he fled, suddenly his legs carried him and he ran He could no longer stay where he was pointed at as the caution of damnation Those who have seen him roaming the brush Know he is harmless, at least if not approached Voice must kept down to a mice like hush And centuries have passed in which no one has dared encroached Upon the dwelling he makes in each town on each different land Only remnants and sightings keep him alive To be understood and to understand Is upon what all humans survive. So be grateful for your looks, and your great sense of humor For that is all that keeps others, life, and the world less like a big tumor. © 2013 JessicaSumner |
