Ouch

Ouch

A Poem by jessfoundwonder

Naked hearts are blind to difference
The certainty of make believe is difficult to comprehend
The lack of light or sound or color makes the whole thing shallow
And hollowed out and caved in until sturdy walls are formed

The first love is the clearest mark
It clings to pain and heavy breathing
But once we grow older and wiser, not stronger
Our defenses just become more finely tuned

You seemed, to me, different and fresh and so beautiful
I refused to embrace you completely for fear
Dropped my confidence, hit the ground hard, but
There was something about you I just couldn't ignore

I'm attracted to liars and cheaters and fools
Their masks are so real sometimes I'm blind to it all
Steady and bloody hands then rip me in two
And back up the walls lift, thicker and darker
