Under water

Under water

A Story by Jess smith

The bubbles rose from the crystal-clear, blue water. I watched intensely, as if i were about to see the one thing that was causing the bubbles. Under water, you are weightless. You can imagine anything in the whole world. Under water there is clarity. You can see the sea creatures swimming around, playing in the coral groves, splashing in sand bars. The bubbles began to get bigger and bigger, and they rose faster and faster. My heart began to pound; pound like I was fearful of what would emerge from the water. I began to see a shadow; a unrecognizable shape. The shadow got darker and darker; closer and closer. I watched mesmerized by the moving dark mass. I could now see colors; all the colors of the rainbow. Red, yellow, orange, green, blue and purple. They were all placed so genius. It was not yet human, but yet a fish. Some people would call it a mermaid, but that is not at all what it was. This beautiful creature was much more; it did not need a name. The creatures looks told the whole story. The glistening water droplets fall off its body slowly with grace. How can water fall off one so gracefully? The creature opened its mouth as if to speak but could not. It did not need to. Its song was enough to communicate with me; the sweet, sweet sound of its voice. Even the birds silenced for it. The Creature began to moves closer to me with what seemed to be some kind of swagger. In all of my memorization, I still backed up. I did not feel fear, it was just an instinct. The creature cocked its head ever so slightly, at the sight of me. It moved closer, but this time I decided not to back up. The creature was soon right next to me. I felt the beads of sweat roll down my face. I guess I was fearful. The creature reached out its hand to touch my shoulder. Its hand was not as mine was. It had 6 long fingers; they twinkled in the light just as the rest of its body. The creature reached my shoulder and it felt so strange; a feeling I have never felt before. All I could do was look down at the hand on my shoulder. I was frozen. No, not in a metaphorical way, but actually frozen. I started to become frantic. The creature has somehow frozen me in place; as if in my own fear.....to be continued...
