Her ListA Poem by Jeremy BjellandLet me know what you think. There lies the pretty little girl, Filled with innocence and coy, She put a smile on everybody’s face, Found nothing she did not enjoy, She loved spending time outdoors, Did not understand the word “clean,” Whether it’s playing tag with her friends, Or at the pond with her grandpa fishing, One thing she is remembered by the most, Was she always had a smile on her face, The gesture was never for herself, But she was always showing her grace, As memories are filling up the pews, All the eyes are filled up with tears, Wondering why God took her so young, A girl who seemed to have no fear, It came time to speak of the memories, With the father walking up to the stand, Puts the papers down and unfolds them, While wiping the tears away with his hand, Seeing the tears roll down people’s face, And seeing the flower-covered box in the isle, He thinks of the joy she brought to his life, And across his face, he begins to smile, He begins, “Thank you all for coming, She has touched our lives in many ways, And she definitely made it more merrily, She was one who loved everything she did, Don’t think her days ever brought her down, Her playful attitude was very contagious, Everyone saw her a pleasure to be around, The night before she got really ill, I watched her as she had prayed, She was so excited to be talking to God, She talked about everything, she wasn’t afraid, I was wanting to tuck her in to bed, Give her a kiss and say ‘Good night,’ But she said ‘Amen’ and saw me standing there, Turned to me and told me ‘hi’, I asked her what she had in her hand, She told me she reads it when she prays, It’s her list when she talks to God, So he knows what she wants every day, The day after she passed away, I grabbed the list from the shelf, She had more names than I can think of, The only one not on there was herself, I will forever be changed by her prayers, For I know now how selfish I have become, When a girl that was only at the age of six, Could care so much, she prayed for everyone, I hope I get to see my daughter again, For I know she will be inside those pearly
gates, With that cute little smile of hers, Seeing that again would be great, Thank you all for coming today, And sharing your stories with us, And try to live your life like her, Show all your care and lovingness.” © 2013 Jeremy Bjelland |
