Best Friend

A poem I wrote when my best friend was killed in a car accident in 2009.

Your life was cut short

Came to a tragic end

We had grown apart

Me and my best friend

The first day of school

That's where we met

Scared were we both

The subjects we didn't get

Years pass by quickly

We're now in middle school

Barely in our teen years

But thinking we're so cool

High school came and went

You stayed, but I dropped out

Our friendship lasted through it

Though we had our doubts

Now time marched on 

And life got in the way

Neither kept in touch

Only ten miles away

I got the news today

That you had just died

In a bad car accident 

Yet I refused to cry

Looking back on yesterday

All of our shared years

It didn't take long at all

For my eyes to fill with tears  

Best friends we are

Best friends were you and me

Until we meet again someday

Best friends we'll always be
