Message in a Bottle

Message in a Bottle

A Poem by jennslin
"

First post in a long time! Feel free to comment your thoughts. In this poem, I just played around with some imagery and words. Hope you enjoy. (Photos I used in the poem belong to Liat Aharoni)

"

Drown me among the seaweed beds

and let the sea shells serve as pillows,

till all that is left of me are the grains of sand

trapped in the small caverns between my teeth.

Kiss me once last time

and taste the salt water on my dry lips,

sunbaked and craggy

like the barnacles washed ashore

by the fickle waves.

Take the bruises from off my skin

and scatter them darkening sky,

joining the ranks of stars

pointing toward the direction

of home.

Remember to bottle my thoughts

and cast them into the tide

where maybe somebody will find them

and see what’s inside.

Close my lighthouse eyes that

flicker out at distant ships

with white sails that look more like

the wings of large gulls

beating against the howling wind.

Lastly, bury me in a treasure chest

and throw me into the bottom of the sea

where at last my bones

can sit among the ruins of a

Mermaid’s castle.
