The Gateway

The Gateway

A Poem by Jennifer M. Pennington

The Gateway

The door is open.
Open so wide.
There's a feeling in my heart
That begs me to walk inside
There's a nagging voice within the corridors
Of my mysterious mind
That tells me to trust, to cast fear aside
The scent of perfumed flowers
Pervades the air
I can hear birds singing
Their songs erase all despair
The sky begins to clear
In this moment, I am aware.

I walk through the door
Bold and proud
The song of my heart
Sings ever so loud
Although I am confused
For as I walk through the door
There is nothing beyond it
Except blankness and floor
My mind searches for reason
My heart searches for something
But how can I fathom paradise
Where there is absolutely nothing?

Then it hits me
Like a ton of bricks
The gateway is not empty
This is not a cruel trick
This space of emptiness
Is where all greatness begins
Were we not born from the wombs darkness
Did we not call that home bliss?

Beyond this gateway
Is the womb of all creation
It begins within silence
Within darkness & imagination
Close your eyes
Open your mind
Feel with all your heart
For that is where your gateway lies
