Your Light has Shined the Brightest

A poem written for my dog when he passed. Written back in 2010.

Your light has shined the brightest

Never before have I seen,

A flame so warm and comforting

Just as yours has been

 

Your endless, undying warmth

And your lively flickering around,

Will stay with me forever

Even though you are gone

 

Your light has shined the brightest

Until the very end

And even then you still

Held so much life

 

I wish that you were here with me

For just a few more glances

But like every great flame, there comes a time

For it to be extinguished
