A LOST SUMMER OVERVIEW...A Story by Jennifer WebsterIt may have been a different summer, but I made the best of it as I could...This past
summer was as very strange as anything; come to think of it, most people would
think that there was hardly even a summer at all. However, people such as I
have tried to make as best of this summer as we ever could throughout this
pandemic. Meanwhile, those scientists better hurry up quick with the vaccine if
we want to have our summer back again! (Kidding, of course…) One of my favorite places to visit, the
Dover Public Library, was closed back in March as a way to help prevent the
spread of COVID-19; Earlier they had announced that they would reopen in
August, which happens to be this month, and I was so happy that they would
finally reopen after being closed for so many months. Unfortunately, I got word
that the library had delayed its opening, and that they would delay its opening
until whatever date they could ever set in reopening! I was so upset by this
decision that I told them about it via Facebook; they replied to me that they
would determine on a real reopening when the city or state has a meeting in
September. And I am hoping that they would get busy afterward and reopen soon,
because I cannot wait any longer! In the meantime, I had to find something else for me to write in a quiet place; I had found those bench tables at the North Dover Center in Dover, DE (that’s the place where Acme once was), and until the library ever reopens, that is where I would go to write something, be it a blog post or a story or whatever. There is a reason why the month of August has been quite strange this year; First, there is absolutely NO preseason football this year. And second, there is no preseason college football either. And I do not think that people are going to be traveling on Labor Day weekend this year at all. They could go to other places, such as the mall or the park, but the Labor Day weekend vacation is a no-go this year. Way to end summer on a sour note, kids. All of those things aside, this entire
summer has surely been different from any summer we have experienced in past
years. I have no idea if there is going to be a next year, but I hope that in
the next summer, just one summer from now, by the time everyone is vaccinated
from COVID-19, we would finally have the joy of summer back in our lives once
again. ©2020 Jenn Webster © 2020 Jennifer WebsterAuthor's Note
