FingersA Poem by JennyNicoleTwo observers of the events of 9/11Fingers Together like twine Wrapped in embrace as they look up at the dark cloud above them Dust sprays forth onto faces of grim and despair Black and brown and olive become monochrome in a breathe A withheld exhale escapes as the storm sieges on around them And then… through the air come the memories Fragments of the ones who will forever remain lost Memos and boarding passes and pictures of babies and wives Raining down upon the city of dreams The screaming surrounds them as they dig their fingers deeper into opposite palms. And then the couple falls into a field of dust and fire. Fingers embrace tighter. Skin becomes whiter Their lives will never be the same. © 2010 JennyNicoleReviews
