winter succubus.

winter succubus.

A Poem by jenniewren (J.W. Bouwman)

she ekes at my psyche
trailing icy fingerprints
through the hallways of my heart,
while whispering the truths that hurt -
the ones i know better
than to acknowledge...
she knows the chinks in my armour,
after all, she cut them all out
in the first place
in winter months
her thoughts hold sway
and i recede
lost
quiet
huddled within the safety
of my trusty bolthole
she prowls the perimeter
keeping watch
and while her insidious murmurs
can slide through the floorboards
or between the planks i nailed
over the only way in
(or out)
she herself is unable
to ghost her icicle touch
along my pale flesh
now if i can only hold out til spring...

This is a piece straight out of SK....an unlikely protagonist with eyes for you and your delicate features hunting the perimeter just trying to get a whiff, kind of like Percy really. Loved this, haunting and icy, pull up the blankets kitten, don't move one inch....she smells you.

This poem echoes beauty and power. I loved it to bits. The only thing that annoyed me was the last line, which turned the poem into the first person, for no apparent reason. I don't mean to be harsh...i just felt it was a waste of words.

Thanks for sharing ;)

I read through this a few times and each pass I was taken back by the elusive "she" reference...and being that you had cloaked her so well in the piece I was inclined to begin molding "her" as impatience.....and then through another pass I was again molding "her" into fear ...so what I am getting at is the piece has such a great openess to the reader and allows for the comfort for of molding to their liking...a great piece!!!!!!!!
