A Poem by jenniewren (J.W. Bouwman)

The importance of words to me is nearly unparalleled. Each is an individual world, uniquely beautiful. Even the ugliest of words can hold a certain beauty in the fact they can inspire an emotion. Words have the ability to seduce, to mesmerize me. They've held a mysterious power over me since I first decoded their secret at the age of three. The fifth word I ever learned to read was "dilapidated". It was a love for the ages from the moment on. A person who can skillfully wield them captures an undeniable attraction from me. Words are like brushstrokes, and the author's choice is often just as revealing. My deepest desire is to possess the ability to create that perfect, lovely, toothsome phrase. To explain myself in such a way as to incite a visceral reaction in whoever comes upon my words. I crave that.. Deep, heartfelt yearnings that can leave me a restless, dissatisfied mess if left too long ignored. I don't want greatness, mass appeal, "The Great American Novel" - just that quiet private moment of discovery between me and my reader. As Toad the Wet Sprocket sang, so perfectly, "I wasn't looking for wreaths or for bells/Just someone to listen to stories I tell."

You make sound so romantic and desired, mmm very nice. I have a love hate relationship with words, I love to use them, but hate to follow the rules that come with them. I seek to find the right words to correct describe a feeling or emotion without leaving it lacking in some way. So many possibilities in words and yet they have so many limitations when it comes describing a feeling that everyon can relate too. I think you will find your dream as many here all ready listen or... read you.

Ah!!!This is absolutely delicious if words can be described as that,i am glad you wrote it as a prose cause i know how you can feel for words and when someone is passionate about something such as you are for writing it can be hard to express it in a structured writing.....this was lovely..there are some lines where i felt so so kinda full of emotions you know..while reading them. These are the ones i liked most :

You said it there, if not expressed for long,it can leave a restless mass...i have felt this myself for very long, but coming to understand this lately.

words need the imagination of a poet to take their rightful place.
Laundry lists etc pass on information but without emotion

A real writer's expression. Language perhaps defines what we are, and we are fortunate to be the more because we are in English, the world's most vigorous wordery. It's best, I submit, not to think of words as sort of 'over there' abstraction which we use, but rather as tiny bits of our lives, which are as real and personal as our hair and skin, moreso in fact. Our lives are what they are through and in our words. We live in the words that are in us.

Ohhhhhh....now you have done it! I love me some Toad! Fear is one of my fave albums ever. Glen Phillips is, was and always will be the s**t. Your piece was spot on. F**k you! Ugly but garners many different emotions. Grandma's dead. Hmmmm, happy, sad or indifferent. You are so right and this was beautifully stated. Nice job.
