tiny poems of icarus (for andy)

A Story by jenniewren (J.W. Bouwman)
"

this is part of a series of tiny poems i wrote for a friend's photo essay book. he's spearheading the charge to make landkiting a recognised sport.

"
emboldened by love
powered by hope
above the heavens i rise...

the magic is not to think of the fall
but to believe in the flight

wind curls through
the sail which forms my feathered wing
sunlight pouring through my soul..

why fall prey to simple mortality?
true ascendancy
can only come when you've touched the sky..

a hope in flight
holds more power
than a dream held to earth

basically, landkiting (or "kite jumping") is like kite surfing, but with higher speeds, greater potential for amazing tricks, and without the forgiving expanse of water beneath you when you fall

This reminds me of positive thinking and controlling our thoughts. If we see ourselves flying then take flight we shall do, if we fear falling then we shall fall like a rock. You said this was for a photo album? looking for the pics to accompany the words.... hmmmm ... putting on glasses... shinning glasses.... ok, not here :) Great write!

Ascendant poetry, like this, helps others touch the sky.
Your mind must be an awesome place.

i like these. you do a beautiful job of conceptualizing the way in which sports/the physical body become a metaphor for spiritual transcendence. well done.

Each little poem has a fantastically optimistic outlook that would make inspirational sites and their plethora of silly quotes extremely jealous (I know, I used to get an inspirational quote sent to me eeeevery day)

The second and last one are my favorites!

there's something so alluring in the skies . . . all poets secretly dream of flying . . . I'm fairly certain of it
