tracing snowflakes onto paper.

tracing snowflakes onto paper.

A Poem by jenniewren (J.W. Bouwman)

she writes the words down
knowing each is not enough
the curl of a smile just
can't
be contained in these letters,
 the inscribed scratches
footsteps into an inner psyche
where walls can't even be defined
never mind minutes

she writes the words down
unable to stop the practice
of setting soul to paper
of setting heart to stone
of bleeding out for others
to judge, to take on as their own
the words in which to dress themselves,
made of the colours that create her being

she writes the words down
never knowing if their message is felt
or known or recognised..
yet, still,
she writes the words down
trying to capture the elusive magic
of what lies within..

tracing snowflakes onto paper. *poem* sound bite

This whole bit is terrific, particularly:
she writes the words down
unable to stop the practice
of setting soul to paper
of setting heart to stone
of bleeding out for others
to judge, to take on as their own
the words in which to dress themselves,
made of the colours that create her being

Good job young lady.

I have to say, this being the fourth piece of yours I have read, it is probably my favorite thus far and I am, at this point, utterly in love with your poetry and really, in all truth, I am not a poetry person.

You capture the soul of the artist in this. The soul of the writer. Everything that moves a pen across blank paper or keeps fingers typing at a keyboard late at night is personified in this piece. It is as if it was written for me but I can relate it to many of the talented artists and writers I know.

The title in itself beautifully sets up the poem to come. This is fantastic poetry.

The poet Breyten Breytenbach once said that "A poet is a man born without skin."

The words you write gather together skeletons and clothe them with flesh...

It is so difficult to capture or true feelings and self from within onto paper. It seems words don't hold the magic to ever truly capture it for others to read and understand. This is why poetry is never ending and always evolving into new forms of creation. Your work is always so real and so powerful. :)

And I hope you never do! :)

I like the recursion in this - something that is usually the kiss of death for a poem. But there is delicacy and fluidity enough to get away with it. Nicely done.

This is a perfectly constructed and beautifully written poem that has a clear distinction in heart-felt and deep understanding. It's the feeling that all writers have or will at some point -if not always- have when attempting to put words to real feelings. I liken it to a painter trying to reproduce an abstract dream literally on to canvas - what would be seen there would ultimately be meaningless. One can only attempt to evoke the feelings of the soul and thoughts of the mind through diverting them into powerful words, but that cannot ever properly justify what is felt inside. A feeling is much more profound than something which is merely a translation of that feeling; leaving only an interpretation of what will then ultimately be interpreted again by others who read those words... and then the feeling takes on a new life of its own.. And, depending on your point of view, is a b*****d child of your imagination, long-since rebelliously escaped from its mother.. Perhaps that is a definition somehow of ART.

"to take on as their own
the words in which to dress themselves,
made of the colours that create her being"

...There are many great lines contained within this poem, but these were the most striking.
A very intelligent and accomplished piece of work.
