Lessons In Fencing

Lessons In Fencing

A Poem by jenniewren (J.W. Bouwman)

We move around each other

like swordsmen.

Stabbing in, lightning quick,

for the vein,

then wincing when we see the blood

we have drawn.

Helpless to move out of the circle

we're trapped in, while

lashing out in frustration

because the bonds chafe.

I want to turn and walk away,

concede the battle, but I am held too strongly

by these chains

(as are you)

to drop my foil

and quit you from my life

Very poignant and powerful message. Even when we know we should walk away, it is often so difficult because we are emotionally bound to the person, as well. But walk away we must.
