tenement roses.

tenement roses.

A Poem by jenniewren (J.W. Bouwman)

loving you means withstanding
the little knives
you use to cut away,
in sand-grain increments,
sliver after tiny sliver
of the innermost self
i foolishly placed in your palm

lip caught tight
between clenched teeth,
i listen to your latest volley,
transfixed,
watching the blood drop well
and slide unnoticed
along pale flesh that once withstood
only your fingertip caresses;

i stand
watching the inside
from the outside
held beyond the bubble
we once both lived in

Ouch! Deep breath after listening to this one. To have the tone of this one soooo right, you have to have seen it up close - perhaps personal. I don't envy either view at all
