The Key

The Key

A Poem by Jennifer Rebecca Whitmire
"

uhhh

"

Take the key and hold it close to your heart

For it is the only one of its kind

It is the key to my heart

The heart that has been mended time and time again

Its only a matter of time before time repeats its self

Shattering the taped puzzle known as my heart into trillions of pieces

Losing more slivers of the broken heart each time someone decides to use their crude ways to unlock me.

Sorry, I was rereading and I saw something else, I usually dont make so many suggestions but I really like this. You may want to take out the archaic 'thy' in line one and 'tis' in line three. The older language is not really supported by the rest of the poem and it works really well with 'your' in line one and 'It is' in line 3. t.

I would exchange the last to words with "unlock me." I think it would bring the poem together and add some ascetecism while not losing the emotional punch. Nice write. t.

I'm sorry it has been that way for you, Jennifer. It was a lot like that for me, too. Failed relationships always cut deep and leave scars. (I have many to prove it) Think well of yourself, be cautious, and keep trying. Soon your luck will change.

The notion of a 'key' for the heart may be a bit trite, but the idea of mended-shattered-taped could be expanded here to make a very pognant poem. Keep up the good work.
