An Old Friend (Story)

An Old Friend (Story)

A Story by Jen Marks
"

This is an extremely short story about a renewal of a friendship. We had about 5 minutes to scribble down whatever came to mind in Writer's Craft class, and this is what I came up with.

"

I hated the way I acted, and I told her that. I had been such a d****e, and had taken her for granted, and I told her that. But sometimes I change; something takes over me, and I'm a whole other person... I didn't tell her that part. The other side of me doesn't like her as much as the real me does... I would never dream of telling her that.

"Let her go, let her go," the other me would tell me.

"But she's my friend," I would whisper harshly under my breath.

"It's either her or me," the other me would coax.

To tell you the honest truth, I did consider that for a while. Days, to be exact...maybe even a week or two. The other me was a part of me...and ever since it came into my life, the other me became more and more present. It almost got to a point where it was never absent. The other me had taken over. It had consumed me.

There was never a moment where I didn't think about it. If someone was making plans, I would always have to ask the other me if it was avaliable...and if it wasn't, neither was I.

So in that moment, I had to sacrifice one thing that meant a lot to me. I told my friend I was letting her go... I couldn't commit a murder-suicide.

This is a very rough and very short story with no editing whatsoever. I personally think the poem version of it is much better: http://www.writerscafe.org/writing/JenMarks/494741/

That was a very interesting story, and it's amazing how you wrote all of that down in a couple minutes for a class. Great job! It really has so much feeling. Sometimes life is like that too...People become different and sometimes that can't let that part of them go. In the process they can lose the people they care most about. Very interesting... - God Bless XD
