Salt Haunts

Salt Haunts

A Story by Jeni Reed

Contemporary witch.  Either for humors sake, or because it was the only thing convenient, she used kitchen sea salt to barricade certain objects that were haunted.  For humor sake, or because it was simply convenient, the witch used sea salt she had bought at Trader Joes, and had to twist the top of the salt canister to grind the spice into a fine powder in order to utilize its strength.
Things that are haunted don't care for salt.
What this witch didn't realize however was that things that are haunted also don't care much for grinding sounds, or Trader Joes.
Soon into her salt twisting action, an object launched its fury at her naive face.  Salt flew into her eyes, the strength of the haunts shattered the salt grinder, revealing the small blade responsible for crushing the salt chunks inside.  The blade flew into her throat, killing her instantly.
The irony being of course, what was left of the grinder, is now haunted.

This is very good writing, and although quite short, it is highly effective. I guess the life of a witch can be hazardous.
