![]() Where We Promised (lyrics)A Poem by Jene'eThere once was a prince, so handsome and valliant, He asked me for marriage to which I inclined. And all through the village we'd answer quite gaily (that) We'd be there together for the rest of our time.
And we danced in the meadow and bathed in the ocean, Wrote songs about lovers we'd sing at the fair. "And if time separates us go to where we promised, Go there and I very swear I'll meet you there."
And when came the summer went searching for dragons To keep as companions or teach them to fly. Then out of the darkness the king's cruel battalion Came marching, came stealing my prince from my side.
And the women were screaming as (k)night took their husbands; Their sons all went running to aid in the fight. "And until you come back I'll be where we promised, Go there and I very swear I'll meet you there."
The seasons were changing, no news from the battle, 'Til the king came out singing that we'd won the fight. "Our men will be coming home shortly and after We'll celebrate victory all through the night."But the men didn't come home the way that he'd mentioned; In brown wooden boxes their memories framed. While grieving I buried you right where we promised, Go there and I very swear I'll meet you there.
And we'll dance in the meadow and bathe in the ocean, Write songs about lovers we'll sing at the fair. "And time separated us right where we promised, I'm there and I very swear I'll meet you there."
