Bedtime Story

Bedtime Story

A Poem by Jodelle
"

A picture I came across lead me to write a poem

"

Tell me a story

Of people in a world where life has no meaning

They slumber day and night till they’re bones collapse

Their skin shrivels at the thought of empty plates

Cobwebs cultivate at corners of the bare walls

Tell me a story

About the mind decaying

At the hands of prestigious powerful

Pointing their guns at the feeble

Helpless at the policies

Laws, regulations

Tell me a story

About a young girl

Who grew up to believe

In dreams and empowerment

Her life was torn

By greed and inequality

The disappointment drawn across her face

Her life at stake

The communist dust

Choking her throat

She screams

But the voice of injustice spreads

She grows up

To see the desolate livelihood

Of Buzludzha ahead

Her dreams abandoned

Smoke bombs desecrated

Those that fear the most are feared

At the threat of their provisional power

Tell me a story

That the future will be brighter

Than the rays that dimly glow
