A Chapter by Jenay

Charlie was a little boy who lost his parents when he was just about seven. He had three sisters and two brothers. His sisters names were Barbara and Mary. His two brothers names were Chuck and Dustin. Charlie was the oldest. He had to take care of Mary, Barbara, Chuck and Dustin. They all had another sister. She’s the oldest. Who is it you ask? It’s me of course. My name, is Shira. I’m the oldest of them. All the kids were very confused when I came back home. At first they were scared of me, but they got used to me being home and they finally gave me the “welcome home from the asylum hug”. I’ve missed these kids. I raised them. But one day, Charlie, being Charlie, called the insane asylum on me. They came and picked me up from my house when I was playing with the kids in the yard. Charlie thought it was a joke. Yes, I’m older than Charlie I’m 13. Charlie never meant any harm towards me, at least that’s what you think.

Charlie was blonde, short, and had blue eyes. He was only seven years old when he lost his parents and I. He used to always listen to me better than our own mom and dad. Charlie knew better to listen to me. If Charlie didn’t listen to me he knew he would be grounded for a long time. When we lost our parents he was grateful, but aren’t we all grateful when we lose our parents? I know for a fact, that Barbara is the only one who still misses our mom and dad. Barbara was their everything. None of us other kids were as good as Barbara. It was always Barbara this, Barbara that, Barbara, Barbara, Barbara.

Barbara was a little taller than Mary, she had dirty blonde hair, and green eyes. She was only five when our parents died. While she  understood what happened to our parents, shehe didn’t know how they died. She tried so hard not to cry.  But it didn’t go so well when she had to tell her little sister. Barbara loved everyone in our family even our mom and dad, but she wouldn’t let anything happen to them. Everyone thought because she didn’t get very much attention from our mom and dad, she wanted them dead. Mary took it better than Barbara did when she told Mary, I was the one taking care of her.

Mary was a short, brunette, and hazel eyed girl. She was only four when we lost our parents. She didn’t understand what was going on when our parents died. She just thought it was a fun game. As she got older she finally understood that I was the one taking care of her. She looked up to me, she still does. Mary got along with everyone in our family fairly well. It was Barbara who told Mary about our parents when she was old enough to understand everything. Mary started crying after she heard everything. I ran in to see what was going on when Barbara tells me she finally told Mary what happened to our mom and dad. That means now, I have to go tell Dustin, because he wouldn’t believe Barbara.

Dustin, what a sweet little boy he was. Always doing what mom, dad, and I told him to do. He was a short, blonde haired, blue eyed, boy. But oh man, didn’t everyone want to die if he got hurt. Dustin wouldn’t listen to Charlie while I was at the asylum. He got into trouble at school, he started making bad choices. When I came home that all changed. I walked into Dustin’s room one day and he knew everything was better. But I had to go tell him why I’m taking care of him. We were sitting on his bed, and the first question he asked was “Where’s mom and dad at Shira?”

“That’s what I came to tell you, our parents died right before I went to the asylum. I was taking care of you right before I left for the asylum. I didn’t want to tell you because I knew you would be upset because I left and I had Charlie take care of you.”

“How could you do that to me. Leave me with Charlie and go to that messed up place?”

“How could I do it to you? Charlie is the one who called the asylum on me. I’m sorry Dustin, I didn’t mean any harm.” I leave the room. And I go talk to Chuck, he didn’t really know our parents because he was born right before they died.

Chuck is the youngest of all of us.
