How to survive going away

How to survive going away

A Poem by Jennifer Morris
"

For all the people that think they are alone when they go away to school, apply these guidelines and you'll be just fine. And remember the reason you left in the first place.

"

Close your eyes and feel the NYC breeze because you may not feel it again.

Go home and smell your Father’s food simmering on the stove because one day soon he won’t be there

Give a huge hug to the lil cousins, tell them you love them for you might not meet again.

Treat yourself to a day just embracing yourself in your family and another day by yourself. Family reveals your social skills but being alone proves you can have peace in your life.

When you get there surround yourself around those who lift you and cut off the ones that don’t,

Encourage Everyone to be themselves because you can remember the time you had no idea who you were,

Hug yourself when you feel alone and thank yourself for realizing it.

Make a few friends because you’ll be in a new area by yourself.

Always bring something you love with you everywhere,

because it's a great conversation starter,

Bring your favorite memento as a child, so on those sleepless nights, you can hold it near to you and remember why you left in the first place.

Make a friend who understands the pain you’re in, someone who has been through it for years, Stay close to them, for you know you will never return to your old family because you will fall back into your old ways.

Last but not least CRY whenever you need to because holding back tears makes you turn to your old self when the only reason you left was to make a new you.
