Give It and Live It All

Give It and Live It All

A Poem by Jen

To give it all, and what’s it for, this love we bear?

A few moments in a sunlit rose scented garden

That weeps and mourns for us when we’re not there

And sighs to think how easily we were fooled

If those violets could talk they’d warn us not to tread

Into such dangerous places as we’ll soon find our innocence

For a garden is soon turned into a violent and dirty bed

On which we lose our souls to those undeserving

To give it all, and what’s it for, this sacrifice?

To toil, and bleed, and cry, and find that life

Was to end beneath a mound of dirt and layer of ice

No tears unshed or stifled moans to leave your corpse

A poet’s ranting means nothing if you haven’t the soul,

The ears, the heart, the wave to ride and be dashed

On the rocks where that poet died some time ago

Walk a hundred miles, and you’d have to walk a thousand more
