Absent Love

Absent Love

A Poem by Jennifer Venter

When you speak you speak to me
Unfilled faces fade
Only your smile fills my empty glade

I taste more than I should
With you, I dream more than I ever could

Your eyes a dark shade of unknown seeing
Your heart a deep hole with unknown feelings
Our friendship a mountain of unknown leadings

Take my hand lead me away
To that summer home we dream of in our absent way

Take my heart keep it close
Till the day our love shows
Then we will know where the mountain river flows
Empty lakes or a valley filled with gold

Nevertheless you're in my life
Shadowed by the people that won our trust
We keep them close
So that we won't hurt
Keeping us apart is the only thing they really earned

Unknowingly they rip us away
From what could be a loving stay
We don't mean to use them in this way
We can't get past the vision of yesterday
